I will bow out of office as a fulfilled man- Wike

During a Thanksgiving Service organized by the Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday, Governor Nyesom Wike announced that he will leave office on May 29, having made a positive impact on all 23 local government areas of the state.

Wike also urged the incoming administration to prioritize stewardship. The governor expressed that only individuals who are either blind or enemies of the state would fail to acknowledge the equitable distribution of infrastructure across the state. Additionally, he credited the PDP’s success in the polls to their commitment to good governance and gender balance, highlighting the presence of female Vice-chairmen and ward councillors in all 23 local government areas, as well as a number of female Senators and Members-elect.

Mr. Siminialayi Fubara, the Governor-elect, and his team were advised by the governor not to be sidetracked by the opposition’s attempt to take them to the tribunal.

During the program, Innocent Ordu, the host and Bishop in charge of the cathedral, emphasized the need for political leaders who could solve problems rather than make excuses. He quoted James chapter 4:8 and encouraged the incoming government to always seek God’s guidance in their pursuit of wisdom to provide good governance for the people of the state.

Maganov, Chairman Of Russian Oil Giant That Asked Putin To End Ukraine War, Dies After Falling From Hospital Window

The chairman of Russia’s Lukoil oil giant, Ravil Maganov, has reportedly died after falling from a hospital window in Moscow.

Lukoil died on Thursday, a source familiar with the situation told Reuters.

Ravil Maganov, 67, fell from the sixth-floor window of the Central Clinical Hospital.

The businessman is the second Lukoil executive to have died in recent months. Chief executive Alexander Subbotin, died after suffering from “cardiac arrest,” reports stated at the time.

In early March, Lukoil called for an end to the conflict with a statement saying the board “expresses its concern over the ongoing tragic events in Ukraine and its deepest sympathy to all those affected by this tragedy”.

The statement added: “We stand for the immediate cessation of the armed conflict and fully support its resolution through the negotiation process and through diplomatic means.”

Maganov had worked in Lukoil since 1993, shortly after the company’s inception, and overseen its refining, production and exploration.

He became the chairman in 2020. His brother Nail is the head of mid-sized Russian oil producer Tatneft.

Ravil Maganov was a close associate of one of Lukoil’s founders, Vagit Alekperov.

Alekperov, a former Soviet deputy oil minister, resigned as president of Lukoil in April, a week after Britain imposed an asset freeze and travel ban on him as part of sanctions over Russia’s military actions in Ukraine. Culled from Sahara Reporters

How much should a litre of fuel cost in Nigeria?

This is certainly one question that is sure to evoke several answers in a nation where Premium Motor Spirit, otherwise known as fuel remains an opium of sorts. PMS is subsidized in Nigeria, in spite of several indices that show the intended benefits have not materialized for Nigerians. On the contrary, many have argued that it appears to be double jeopardy considering that people have to pay out-of-pocket to access basic healthcare, education, transportation and security, among others, with no apparent cushion from the subsidies.

This special report is by no means a finger-pointing or blame-seeking article. The quest is simply to highlight, using recent trends and data from the government and operators, that it seems inevitable that Nigerians may have to pay more for the product in the near future. The body language from the government suggests the subsidy regime may very well be nearing its end due to dwindling national fortunes.  Are Nigerians prepared for what this might bring in terms of the pump price of petrol?

Nigeria continues to witness perennial bouts of scarcity of PMS (petrol) as the pendulum swings endlessly around the continued debate about what the true petrol pump price should be. Regardless of whether we have enough fuel for 200 million Nigerians, it appears the main issue should be: “At what Price”. This is what ensures sustainability. Culled from Nairametrics

Why Buhari recalled Bashir Ahmad, upgraded him to Special Assistant on Digital Communications

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed his former Personal Assistant on New Media, Bashir Ahmad, as Special Assistant to the President on Digital Communications.

Reports had it that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, confirmed the appointment in a letter of appointment addressed to Ahmad, dated July 20, 2022.

In the letter sighted by NAN on Sunday in Abuja, Mustapha said the appointment took effect from July 19, 2022.

Ahmad had resigned his previous position as Personal Assistant to the President in line with the presidential directive urging all political office holders wishing to contest elective office to resign.

The presidential media aide lost his bid to secure the ticket of the All Progressives Congress at the party’s primaries for Gaya, Ajingi, Albasu Federal Constituency.

Ahmad had frowned at the way and manner the party’s primary was conducted, saying it was fraught with fraud.

NAN reports that the presidential social media handler is believed to be the only presidential aide ‘recalled’ by the president since the conclusion of the APC primaries.

All the cabinet ministers and presidential aides except Ahmad, who resigned to participate in the APC primaries but failed to secure the party tickets had since been replaced by the president.

Some social commentators who spoke to NAN on the promotion of the media aide to the position of Special Assistant, said Ahmad had successfully handled the social media space as Personal Assistant before his resignation. Vanguard News reports
